The 2026 (27th) Hainan Island Carnival, themed 'Vibrant Free Trade Port, Charming Hainan Island,' will take place from July 18 to August 18, presenting more than 50 distinctive events across the island. This year's carnival introduces a novel concept of 'the whole island as a carnival,' breaking free from traditional scenic spot limitations. Four thematic segments debut: water sports, joyful performances, gourmet flavors, and trendy shopping, catering to outdoor adventurers, cultural enthusiasts, family travelers, and food lovers alike.
Highlights unfold across Hainan's diverse regions. In Sanya and Lingshui, beach music festivals and island art exhibitions set a romantic seaside tone. Wanning and Qionghai focus on trendy outdoor pursuits such as surfing and island cycling. The central rainforest area offers wellness activities like rainforest trekking and immersive Li and Miao cultural experiences. On the western coast, Danzhou's Haihua Island will host a spectacular mass chorus carnival to conclude the celebration.
A grand culinary carnival spans the island, featuring coastal specialty markets, Southeast Asian–style food streets, and rainforest-themed dining. Fresh seafood, local snacks, and Southeast Asian flavors are highlighted, with a starry beachside gala dinner combining ocean views, gourmet cuisine, and live music.
For international visitors, Hainan continues to expand openness: citizens of 86 countries enjoy visa-free entry with a 30-day stay, and international routes at Haikou and Sanya airports are increasing, offering direct access from many global destinations. This year's carnival upgrades exclusive benefits for international visitors, including multilingual guided tours, exclusive discounted flight & hotel packages, and special duty-free promotions.
