BioVaxys Technology Corp. (CSE: BIOV) and Adiverna LLC have entered into a research agreement to develop mRNA-based vaccines for companion animals, targeting rabies, leptospirosis, feline infectious peritonitis (FIV), and other diseases. The collaboration leverages BioVaxys' DPX Immune Educating Platform and Adiverna's proprietary artificial intelligence technology to design optimized mRNA sequences.
Adiverna's AI platform uses machine learning to analyze extensive datasets and predict the most effective mRNA sequences that code for protective antigens. This approach aims to address the current lack of approved mRNA vaccines for companion animals. The platform also offers dose-sparing potential, requiring less vaccine while eliciting robust immune responses.
BioVaxys' DPX platform presents antigens to the immune system via a non-systemic mechanism that does not release active ingredients at the injection site. Instead, it promotes active uptake by immune cells and delivery to lymph nodes, providing sustained immune activation. This method offers advantages over lipid nanoparticles, which can degrade and cause systemic inflammation.
Traditional vaccines for companion animals typically provide one to three years of protection. The DPX-formulated mRNA vaccines could offer longer-lasting immunity with fewer doses, rapid neutralizing antibody responses, and faster, safer manufacturing. These vaccines would avoid viral material and impurities associated with conventional vaccines.
The global rabies veterinary vaccines market was valued at $785 million in 2024 and is projected to reach $1.1 billion by 2030. The broader dog vaccine market was approximately $2.10 billion in 2025, while the feline vaccines sector is expected to grow from $1.77 billion in 2025 to $3.28 billion by 2034.
