Birmingham OB/Gyn Expands Access to Women's Health Services in Eastern Alabama with New Trussville Women's Health Center

Birmingham OB/Gyn has announced the development of the Birmingham OB/Gyn – Trussville Women's Health Center at The Pinnacle Shopping Center in Trussville, Alabama, aiming to expand access to comprehensive women's healthcare for one of the state's fastest-growing regions. The new center will serve as the practice's regional hub for eastern Jefferson, St. Clair, and Blount Counties, transitioning from a limited clinic schedule to a full-time, full-service facility.

According to David Carmichael, Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham OB/Gyn, the project addresses patient demand for convenient, comprehensive care. "This project isn't simply about opening a larger office. It's about making it easier for women to receive comprehensive healthcare closer to home," he said. The new center will offer appointments Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon, with expanded services including screening mammography, dedicated ultrasound, Non-Stress Testing (NST), and on-site laboratory services.

A key addition is 3D screening mammography, provided through a partnership with Onsite Women's Health. The center will also offer the Mammo with heart program, an AI-enabled clinical initiative that identifies breast arterial calcifications (BAC) during routine mammograms—a marker associated with cardiovascular disease. David Freedman, president and chief growth officer at Onsite, emphasized the convenience factor: "By bringing advanced 3D screening mammography and our Mammo with heart program directly into the practice, we're making it more convenient for women to prioritize both their breast and heart health in a trusted, familiar setting." Women with significant BAC findings will be advised to follow up with their primary care physician or a cardiovascular specialist.

The Trussville Women's Health Center will complement Birmingham OB/Gyn's existing locations in Birmingham and Hoover and maintain its partnership with Grandview Medical Center, where physicians will continue delivering babies. Melissa Walker, Director of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the investment, stating, "Trussville is thrilled to welcome this investment in women's healthcare. Birmingham OB/Gyn and Onsite Women's Health are bringing vital, convenient services closer to home for women in Trussville and the surrounding communities."

The center aims to reduce unnecessary travel and improve preventive care by allowing patients to complete annual wellness visits, mammography, ultrasound, and lab testing in a single visit. Carmichael noted, "Healthcare should be convenient, connected, and centered around the patient. Our goal is to reduce unnecessary travel, improve access to preventive care, and provide women with more of the services they need in one location." Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with a grand opening announcement to follow.
