BRYTR DAYS Launches Daily Nutrition Drink Inspired by Founder's Survival of Grizzly Bear Attack and Stage 4 Cancer

Kelly Krpata's life has been marked by two extraordinary events: a grizzly bear attack while hiking in Glacier National Park as a University of Michigan graduate student, and later, two diagnoses of Stage 4 colorectal cancer. Yet neither of these experiences directly inspired him to start a company. Instead, they reshaped his perspective on what matters most—ordinary days.

That perspective is now the foundation of BRYTR DAYS, a company that today introduces its philosophy of Daily Nutrition for Real Life with a simple, once-daily nutritional drink designed to help people feel more prepared for everyday demands. The announcement signals a shift in the nutrition industry, moving away from optimization and toward supporting the life people already live.

Krpata's journey began not with nutrition but with curiosity about why some days feel easier than others. After surviving the bear attack—which required surgery to repair severed muscles and multiple puncture wounds and was later featured in National Geographic Adventure—and more than two decades later facing Stage 4 cancer, he found himself paying closer attention to energy, focus, resilience, and recovery. Those experiences didn't convince him that life needed to become extraordinary; they convinced him that ordinary days were worth protecting.

"Going through cancer changes what you pay attention to," Krpata says. "You stop thinking about living an extraordinary life and start appreciating ordinary ones. You want enough energy for your family, your work, and the people you care about. You realize most people aren't trying to optimize every moment. They're simply trying to have more good days."

That curiosity led him to explore nutrition science and conclude that modern life has outpaced our nutritional habits. Busy schedules, stress, inconsistent meals, and poor sleep have become the norm, yet the nutrition industry often asks people to do more—follow another routine, buy another product, or chase another trend. Instead of building another nutrition company, Krpata asked a different question: How could nutrition better support the life people were already living?

That question brought together family, friends, and scientists. As the idea grew, Krpata realized that discovering an idea and building a company are different jobs. He asked his wife, Anita, to become CEO—not because she shared his strengths, but because she complemented them. The two met as students at the University of Michigan and later navigated two Stage 4 cancer diagnoses together.

"I've always believed discovering an idea and building a company are two different jobs," says Krpata. "I've always been drawn to questions. Anita has always been exceptional at turning answers into action."

Together, they built BRYTR DAYS around three principles: choose the right ingredients, understand the right interactions, and find the right ratios. Internally called the Three Rs, these principles guide every formulation decision. The result is Daily Nutrition for Real Life—a once-daily drink that aims to help people feel more like themselves.

"We're not trying to help people optimize their lives," says Krpata. "We're trying to help people feel a little more like themselves. Because when you feel more like yourself, it's easier to show up for everything else that matters."

For Krpata, BRYTR DAYS was never about building another nutrition company. It was about building something that reflected what life had taught him: that extraordinary experiences can change your perspective, curiosity can change your understanding, and sometimes the best way to help people live extraordinary lives is to help them have more good ordinary days. The launch of BRYTR DAYS matters because it challenges the prevailing optimization narrative in wellness, offering a sustainable alternative that prioritizes everyday resilience over relentless self-improvement. In doing so, it may resonate with millions who seek simpler, more attainable ways to support their health.
