The Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos Scholarship for Medical Students is now accepting applications from eligible undergraduate and medical students throughout the United States. Created to encourage the next generation of physicians, the annual scholarship recognizes students whose personal experiences have inspired a commitment to compassionate, equitable, and patient-centered healthcare.
Founded by Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos, MD, the scholarship reflects the belief that exceptional physicians are shaped by more than academic achievement. Supporting Future Leaders in Medicine: The scholarship was established to assist students preparing for careers in medicine while encouraging thoughtful reflection on the experiences that motivate them to serve others. Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos believes that meaningful medical practice is strengthened by an understanding of both the scientific and human dimensions of healthcare. Applicants are invited to share how significant life experiences have influenced their decision to pursue medicine and how those experiences will shape their future approach to patient care, particularly for underserved populations.
Eligibility Requirements: The scholarship is open to students who meet one of the following criteria: currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university as an undergraduate pursuing a pre-medical curriculum, biology, health sciences, or another related field; or currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) program. As part of the application process, candidates must submit an original essay between 500 and 800 words responding to a specific prompt about a personal challenge or health-related experience that strengthened their desire to become a physician and how that experience will influence their commitment to delivering compassionate, accessible care to underserved communities. All essays must represent the applicant's original work; essays generated by artificial intelligence or previously published are not eligible. The selection process does not include a minimum GPA requirement, emphasizing authenticity, leadership potential, personal reflection, and dedication to service rather than academic metrics alone.
