Energy Fuels Inc. According to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, terbium currently commands a market price of approximately $5.5 million per tonne, underscoring its strategic value.
This announcement follows Energy Fuels' previous qualifications of its neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) and dysprosium oxides for rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing. The company is positioning itself as a key player in the Western rare earth supply chain, which has been dominated by China. Upon closing its pending acquisitions of Australian Strategic Materials (ASM) and Vacuumschmelze (VAC), Energy Fuels expects to become the leading vertically integrated "mine-to-rare earth permanent magnet" producer in the U.S. and Europe, with NdPr, Tb, and Dy oxides produced at the White Mesa Mill serving as key components of its supply chain.
The qualification of terbium oxide is a significant milestone for Energy Fuels and for the broader effort to reduce dependence on Chinese rare earth exports. The U.S. and its allies have been seeking to secure domestic and allied sources of critical minerals, and this development is a step toward that goal. The White Mesa Mill, located in Utah, is the only fully licensed conventional uranium mill operating in the U.S., and it is now also producing rare earth products, showcasing its versatility and strategic importance.
Energy Fuels is also developing three heavy mineral sands/rare earth projects: the Vara Mada Project in Madagascar, the Bahia Project in Brazil, and the Donald Project in Australia (through a joint venture with Astron Limited). These projects, combined with the White Mesa Mill and the pending acquisitions, aim to create a robust and diversified supply chain for critical materials.
