Frontieras North America and Western Fuels have signed an MOU to develop a mine-mouth FASForm processing facility in Wyoming, marking a significant step toward scaling clean coal technology and reducing emissions.

Frontieras North America and Western Fuels have announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop a mine-mouth FASForm processing facility at the Dry Fork Mine near Gillette, Wyoming. The proposed facility would utilize Frontieras' patented FASForm Solid Carbon Fractionation technology to convert coal into ultra-low-sulfur diesel, FASCarbon, and naphtha, with initial coal feedstock supply of up to approximately 2.7 million tons annually and 5.4 million tons at full build-out. The MOU also contemplates long-term agreements covering the facility site, coal supply, and Western Fuels' purchase of ultra-low-sulfur diesel produced at the facility, as well as potential use of Western Fuels Association transportation capabilities to move product streams.

The collaboration is a strategic move for Frontieras North America to scale its FASForm technology across Wyoming and the West through mine-mouth facilities, complementing its FASGEN co-location platform for coal-fired power plants. According to the company, FASForm uses a continuous, closed-loop process that converts coal into valuable products while minimizing waste. Under the MOU, FASCarbon produced at the Wyoming facility could be transported to Western Fuels Association member utilities under separate commercial terms or sold into international markets.

This development is significant for the coal industry and the transition to cleaner energy. By implementing FASForm technology at the mine mouth, the partnership aims to reduce the environmental footprint of coal utilization while producing valuable fuels and chemicals. Frontieras North America, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is constructing its first commercial-scale facility in Mason County, West Virginia, and holds an international patent portfolio spanning five continents. The company's technology is designed to redefine coal utilization by enabling zero-waste conversion of coal and other hydrocarbons into clean fuels, fertilizers, and industrial chemicals.

The MOU with Western Fuels represents a crucial step in Frontieras' strategy to deploy its technology at scale. For Western Fuels, the partnership offers a potential source of ultra-low-sulfur diesel and FASCarbon, which could be used by member utilities or sold in the market.
