Glen Rose, known as the Dinosaur Capital of Texas, is gearing up for a summer packed with events, including a traditional Fourth of July festival and a concert by Texas country band Reckless Kelly at the newly remodeled Texas Amphitheater. The events aim to draw visitors to the small town southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth, offering a blend of holiday festivities and live music.
On July 4, 2026, the town will host a daylong celebration starting with a pancake breakfast at the Senior Citizen Center at 8:00 AM, followed by a hometown Independence Day Parade around the historic downtown square at 10:00 AM. Free registration is available for community participants. From noon to 2:00 PM, families can enjoy Dinosaur World Celebration with live music, hot dog eating contests, giveaways, and life-sized dinosaur exhibits. A ceremony at the Creation Evidence Museum takes place at 2:00 PM. The evening culminates at Wheeler Branch Park with fireworks and free live music by the Brady Hulsey Band, hosted by the Somervell County Water District.
Later in the month, on July 18, 2026, the Texas Amphitheater will host Reckless Kelly. The historic open-air venue, recently acquired by the MSAS family, has been renovated with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. The amphitheater's signature water moat creates a unique concert experience. Tickets are available on Eventbrite starting at $55, and the concert runs from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
Traci Niedziela, Tourism Director for Explore Glen Rose, emphasized the appeal of the summer lineup: "July is the perfect time to discover everything Glen Rose has to offer. Whether you're celebrating Independence Day with fireworks and live music or enjoying a world-class country concert at our beautifully renovated amphitheater, we invite visitors to make it a weekend getaway and explore why we're known as the Dinosaur Capital of Texas."
Visitors are encouraged to extend their stay and explore Glen Rose's attractions, including Dinosaur Valley State Park, where real dinosaur tracks are preserved in the Paluxy River bed; Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, a drive-through safari park; and Dinosaur World, featuring hundreds of life-sized dinosaur exhibits. The town also offers the Glen Rose Dinosaur Pass, a free scavenger hunt via the Bandwango app that guides explorers to 35 of the town's 98 hand-painted dinosaurs. Completing all 35 stops earns a free entry pass to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.
Glen Rose provides a range of accommodations, from luxurious boutique hotels to riverside cabins, making it easy for visitors to plan an overnight stay. The historic town square, with its courthouse and local shops, adds to the charm. For more information on events and attractions, visit exploreglenrose.com.
