The inaugural Chinatown Creator Awards, held on August 27 at COYA Living, attracted an over-capacity crowd, underscoring the growing influence of digital creators on Las Vegas' Chinatown corridor. The event, co-hosted by COYA Living, a luxury apartment community at Chinatown's eastern gateway, honored 20 photographers, videographers, food personalities, and storytellers for their impact on the neighborhood's culture and commerce.
Emceed by writer, film director, and City Cast correspondent Jason Harris, the private reception brought together honorees, chefs, restaurant owners, and community partners. Among the honorees in attendance were @lasvegasfill, @brandonfromvegas, @wheretogovegas, @therubyontherocks, @baileyzeats, and others, each receiving a custom plaque commemorating their contributions. Joe Muscaglione, founder of ChinatownVegas.com and Chinatown Amplify, noted, "The creators honored through these awards have done far more than post about restaurants."
The event also showcased the corridor's culinary talent, with chefs and restaurants offering exclusive bites. Sparrow + Wolf and Lamaii, both recently recommended by the MICHELIN Guide, presented dishes such as smoky Isaan sausage and garlicky crispy prawn. Chef Steve Kestler of Aroma Latin American Cocina created a citrus-forward Chinatown Ceviche, while Shanghai Taste contributed an abalone and sea cucumber meatball. Other participants included Double Zero Pie & Pub, China Mama, Mama's House × Durango Social Club, O.Onigiri, Noodlehead, and dessert purveyors Moiché Mochi, Moignet Café, and Milk Bread.
Among the distinguished guests were rock photographer David Plastik, whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, and legendary music publicist Mitch Schneider, who represented David Bowie and Tom Petty. Schneider described the reception on Facebook as a "meaningful event" honoring creators "who've helped put Las Vegas Chinatown on the map."
Las Vegas Chinatown receives approximately 23.9 million visits annually and is home to 248 verified sit-down restaurants, along with cafes, markets, and nightlife venues. "It's 23.9 million visits a year - more than some countries and more than most cities - all concentrated in one neighborhood," Muscaglione said. "These creators have helped the world see why."
The awards were established to formally recognize independent creators whose work, from restaurant discoveries to interviews, has turned individual businesses into destinations and elevated the corridor's profile. The over-capacity attendance and broad culinary participation signal strong neighborhood support and set a solid foundation for future awards.
ChinatownVegas.com is presenting complete coverage in a special edition of This Week in Chinatown, including a companion video episode. The event highlighted the vital role creators play in amplifying the cultural and economic vitality of Las Vegas' Chinatown.
