LION Smart, a company of the LION E-Mobility Group, has been awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2026, placing it among Germany's most innovative mid-sized businesses. The award, which recognizes outstanding innovative strength, will be presented at the German SME Summit on 26 June in Heidelberg by Christian Wulff, former Federal President of Germany and mentor of the TOP 100 innovation competition.
The TOP 100 selection process, led by innovation researcher Professor Nikolaus Franke and his team, evaluates companies across five categories: innovation-oriented top management, innovation climate, innovation processes and organisation, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. These categories are assessed through more than 100 criteria based on a comprehensive online questionnaire completed by participating companies. Franke stated, 'At TOP 100, we analyse thoroughly and comprehensively how innovation-driven the applicants are. Those that are exceptionally well positioned receive confirmation in the form of the TOP 100 Seal.'
LION Smart, which has been entitled to carry the TOP 100 Seal since 1 February, operates in the field of intelligent energy storage and battery solutions. The company has built a strong reputation for modular, scalable storage systems for industrial, grid, and mobility applications. LION Smart pursues a consistently innovation-driven approach from the early concept phase through system development to market launch. 'For us, innovation is not a one-off project, but a permanent part of our day-to-day work and our corporate culture,' said Dr. Joachim Damasky, Managing Partner of LION Smart. 'The TOP 100 award confirms that we are setting the right course not only technologically, but also organisationally and strategically.'
A key success factor for LION Smart is the close integration of research, development, and customer requirements, ensuring that new solutions are developed with a view to real-world applications and future market needs. The company sees the TOP 100 Seal as recognition of its achievements and as an incentive to play an active role in shaping the energy transition with further innovative storage solutions.
The TOP 100 competition is organized by compamedia and has been awarding mid-sized companies for outstanding innovative strength since 1993. In the current, 33rd round, 356 mid-sized companies applied for the seal, and 282 were successful. A maximum of 100 companies can be recognized in each of three size categories: up to 50 employees, 51 to 200 employees, and more than 200 employees. The top innovators will gather on 26 June at the Heidelberg Congress Center for the German SME Summit, where Christian Wulff will personally congratulate them.
