Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards Launch 2026–2027 Global Competition

The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards (MHIMA) have announced the launch of their 2026–2027 competition season, inviting youth and emerging composers, songwriters, arrangers, and orchestrators from around the world to participate. The program is inspired by the legacy of legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch and aims to discover and encourage new musical talent.

The competition introduces updated categories and expanded participation opportunities. Categories include Film/Media Scoring, Classical Composition, Musical Theatre Composition, and a newly expanded Arranging & Orchestration category. Participants in the Arranging & Orchestration category will create original works inspired by material connected to Hamlisch's musical legacy.

The competition is divided into two divisions: Youth Division for entrants under 18, and Emerging Division for those 18 or older who do not yet earn the majority of their income through composing, arranging, or songwriting. All submissions must be original; the use of generative artificial intelligence, stock music, or pre-recorded compositions is prohibited.

Winners will be announced at the late fall 2027 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards Presentation at the Avon Theatre Film Center in Stamford, Connecticut. All nominees will be invited to an exclusive Professional Development and Networking Day in New York City, featuring mentorship and career guidance from industry leaders.

Submissions undergo an anonymous evaluation based on musical literacy, creativity, technological proficiency, dramatic connection, and artistic excellence. Up to five nominees per category advance to review by a Distinguished Jury. Winners receive an official award, and selected works may be considered for publication by Concord, a leading music publishing organization.

Registration details, deadlines, and submission guidelines are available on the official website at www.hamlischawards.org. The MHIMA Board of Trustees thanks sponsors Concord and Caroline's Cakes for their continued support.
