Navigator Books Launches as Independent Publisher Focused on History and Memoir

Navigator Books today announced its launch as an independent book publisher dedicated to publishing compelling books in the categories of History, Biography, Memoir, and Historical Fiction. The Philadelphia-based publisher will release three books in 2026 starting in July, with six titles planned for 2027 and an expanding list in subsequent years.

Founded by Brendan Cahill, a 30-year veteran of trade book publishing, Navigator aims to produce books that endure by developing authors creatively and commercially through multi-book commitments. Cahill, who serves as CEO and Publisher, said, 'Our society and culture are hungry for new, in-depth perspectives on history in our fast-evolving digital era. We need a scalable, human-creativity-forward approach for publishers and authors to create meaningful books that are meant to be experienced at the speed humans can absorb them.'

Navigator Books seeks to address frustrations among established and emerging authors with the current publishing landscape. The publisher will add value through early-stage collaborative ideation with authors, pairing its category focus on history with a business model based on multi-book commitments and royalty standards aligned with veteran agents. Navigator also plans to responsibly incorporate modern technologies, including AI, for operational execution.

The publisher will hold World Rights in All Languages, along with eBook and Audio rights for its 2026 titles. The inaugural list includes: JUST GIVE ME A CHANCE TO FAIL: THE BIOGRAPHY OF NFL HALL OF FAME LINEBACKER SAM MILLS by Paul Domowitch (July), a biography in the tradition of The Blind Side; BRAINROT: A CULTURAL HISTORY by Olivia Shelly Alcott (August), exploring the roots of addictive mobile media; and DARK MESSIAH by Sara Z. Carson (September), a historical novel inspired by the Jim Jones cult.

Navigator's physical books will be distributed in North America through a partnership with Lakeside Book Company. Digital distribution and marketing will be handled by Open Road Integrated Media (ORIM) for eBooks and streaming audio titles worldwide in English.

Todd McGarity, SVP of Business Development at Lakeside Book Company, said, 'We're excited to partner with Brendan to help launch Navigator Books. Combining Brendan's deep industry experience and entrepreneurial spirit with Lakeside's end-to-end supply chain will set up Navigator's titles for success.' ORIM CEO David Steinberger added, 'I've known Brendan for years as a publisher and innovator. Welcoming him back in this new partnership is a perfect fit.'

Cahill independently operates the company as its principal owner with a small in-house team, augmented by partnerships with veteran industry professionals for cover design, pre-press preparation, marketing, and publicity. The company is funded in part by a select group of experienced startup and industry investors.
