Dr. Chuck F. Betters, founder of MARKINC Ministries and author of several books, has released a new work titled "Learning to See When the Lights Go Out." The book, rooted in sermons he delivered shortly after the death of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark, addresses the profound questions that arise when faith is tested by tragedy.
Betters' journey began with a serene evening, watching a sunset and reflecting on God's goodness, only to be shattered days later by a phone call that his son had been in an accident. The loss that followed forced him to confront the coexistence of God's love and sovereignty. The new book is an honest exploration of grief, suffering, and hope, aiming to guide readers through their own darkest moments.
"I hope readers discover hope in the middle of their own crisis," Betters said. "Our journey has taught us that suffering does not have the final word. God does."
This conviction has shaped Betters' ministry. After Mark's death, he and his wife Sharon founded MARKINC Ministries, dedicated to bringing help and hope to hurting people worldwide. The ministry continues through counseling, teaching, writing, and speaking.
Betters, who has a forty-eight-year pastoral career, served churches in Philadelphia and Delaware, founded Red Lion Christian Academy, and pastored Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church for over three decades. He also established Anchored Hope Biblical Counseling, now Anchored Virtual. His previous works include "Teaching Them Young" and "Harlots & Heroines," and he coauthored "Treasures of Faith."
Inspired by Charles Spurgeon, Betters describes his writing journey in three words: loss, hope, purpose. He acknowledges that finding time to write is his greatest challenge, but perseverance is his solution.
The book offers more than sympathy; it provides steady assurance that even in life's darkest valleys, God remains faithful. It is published by Lucid Books, a partnership publisher in the Houston area that combines traditional publishing expertise with author involvement.
