New Evidence Supports Targeted Underwater Search Area for MH370

American businessman Randy Rolston has submitted a proposal to the governments of Malaysia and China for a targeted underwater search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, based on new evidence including NASA satellite observations of elevated carbon monoxide levels in the Indian Ocean. The flight disappeared on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 239 people.

The proposal includes a 19-page technical report that identifies a probable impact zone along the 7th arc—the final satellite communication arc—between 23°S and 24°S, within a 400-square-mile area approximately 680 miles west of Coral Bay, Australia. This zone is significantly smaller than the more than 90,000 square miles previously surveyed. Rolston claims the area has not been searched and lies about 1,000 miles north of where Ocean Infinity concluded its most recent search in January 2026.

A key finding in the report involves NASA satellite observations from March 8, 2014, indicating elevated near-surface carbon monoxide aligned with the 7th arc near the estimated time of MH370's last transmission. Rolston described this as "a significant, previously under-examined lead" that warrants independent technical review and a targeted search. The report also explores end-of-flight scenarios, including possible intentional actions leading to an ocean impact in the deep waters of the Wharton Basin.
