Opawica Explorations Inc. (TSXV: OPW) (FSE: A2PEAD) (OTCQB: OPWEF) has announced a comprehensive exploration update for its 100%-owned Arrowhead Gold Property in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt of Quebec. The company is preparing for a significant 10,000-metre drilling program, with permits already secured for 25 drill pads. This next phase is designed to systematically test high-priority targets developed from extensive geological compilation, geophysics, seismic surveying, AI-assisted targeting, and 3D modelling.
The Arrowhead property sits immediately adjacent to Agnico Eagle's LaRonde Complex, a major gold producer with over eight million ounces produced since 1988. While mineralization on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of Arrowhead's potential, the location provides a compelling context for exploration. Opawica believes that Arrowhead's combination of historical high-grade gold occurrences, modern drill-confirmed mineralization, and numerous untested targets represents a significant opportunity.
Exploration on the property dates back nearly a century, with early work including prospecting, trenching, and underground workings. Historical high-grade values of 45.05 g/t Au and chip samples up to 90.75 g/t Au over 1.0 metre have been reported. These historical results have not been independently verified by Opawica's Qualified Person, but they guide modern exploration.
In 2022, Opawica completed its inaugural modern drill program at Arrowhead, totaling 4,306 metres in 14 holes. The program confirmed gold mineralization along a one-kilometre strike length, with 11 holes intersecting gold zones grading greater than 1.0 g/t Au. Notable intercepts included 18.7 g/t Au over 0.35 metres with 0.72% Cu in hole AR-22-01, and 1.52 g/t Au over 14.8 metres in AR-22-04. The drilling identified gold in two settings: shear zones with quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins in mafic volcanics, and mineralized felsic tuffs with quartz-tourmaline veining.
Following the 2022 program, nine target zones remained untested. The upcoming 10,000-metre program aims to test these and other high-priority targets, including potential extensions and deeper mineralization. Opawica's management emphasizes that the property is not an early-stage concept but a project with substantial historical and modern data, ready for the drill bit.
The planned program is intended to test the continuity and depth of known gold zones, as well as evaluate new targets generated from the comprehensive dataset. With permits in hand, Opawica is positioned to unlock the property's potential. The company's strategy reflects a cost-effective approach to exploration, aiming to increase shareholder value through systematic testing of high-quality targets.
Yvan Bussieres, P.Eng., an independent Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101, has reviewed and approved the technical information in this release. The company cautions that forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, including exploration risks and the possibility of not discovering economically viable mineral deposits.
