Quantum BioPharma Advances Lucid-MS Toward Phase 2 Trials for Multiple Sclerosis

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) is advancing its patented drug candidate Lucid-MS toward Phase 2 clinical trials for multiple sclerosis (MS), marking a potential shift in treatment approaches. Unlike existing MS therapies that primarily target the immune system, Lucid-MS is a nonimmunomodulatory, neuroprotective compound designed to directly prevent degradation of the myelin sheath, the protective covering of nerve fibers that is damaged in MS.

The company recently filed an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is preparing for a Phase 2 trial following successful completion of Phase 1 safety studies and key toxicology programs. Over a decade of preclinical research supports Lucid-MS, including studies showing preservation of myelin integrity, reduced degradation, and improved functional recovery in animal models.

Quantum BioPharma is collaborating with Massachusetts General Hospital to validate a novel PET imaging technique that directly measures myelin integrity in MS patients. This tool could help evaluate the effectiveness of remyelinating therapies and provide a more direct biomarker for treatment response.

The development comes amid continued innovation in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disease treatment markets. Recent clinical and regulatory developments from Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS), Merck & Co. Inc. (NYSE: MRK), TG Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: TGTX), and Bristol Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) underscore the active pipeline in MS and related conditions.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on building a portfolio of innovative assets for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is advancing Lucid-MS as a patented new chemical entity shown in preclinical models to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis.

The company also retains a 19.84% ownership stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., the maker of UNBUZZD(TM), and receives royalty payments of 7% of sales from the product until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum retains full rights to develop similar products for pharmaceutical and medical uses.

With the filing of the IND application and preparations for Phase 2 trials, Quantum BioPharma is positioning Lucid-MS as a potential first-in-class therapy that could directly address myelin damage in MS patients. The collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital on PET imaging further strengthens the development pathway by providing a method to directly monitor myelin repair.
