Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM), a biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing therapies for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, was featured on The BioMedWire Podcast. Co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company's lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, which is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage. Durkacz emphasized that this area remains unmet by currently available treatments, positioning Lucid-MS as a potential breakthrough for patients.
In addition to Lucid-MS, Durkacz highlighted the company's commercial alcohol metabolism product, unbuzzd(TM). This over-the-counter product is designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism and is currently available in the U.S. market. The product is sold by Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., a company in which Quantum BioPharma retains a 19.84% ownership stake as of March 31, 2026. Quantum also receives royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd(TM) until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. This arrangement provides a recurring revenue stream while Quantum retains full rights to develop pharmaceutical formulations.
Looking ahead, Quantum BioPharma is preparing for its upcoming Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS. This will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients, following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers. The trial represents a critical milestone for the company, as positive results could validate Lucid-MS's mechanism of preventing and reversing myelin degradation, the underlying cause of multiple sclerosis. Preclinical models have shown the patented new chemical entity can restore myelin, offering hope for patients with progressive forms of the disease.
The company's pipeline also includes other innovative assets for challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders. Quantum BioPharma is dedicated to building a portfolio of biotech solutions with drug candidates in various stages of development. The recent podcast appearance underscores the company's commitment to communicating its progress and growth opportunities to investors and the broader biotech community.
