Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) has reached the halfway point in patient enrollment for its pilot multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study conducted in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital. Preliminary PET imaging data from the study are showing encouraging signals in acute MS lesions, according to a company announcement. The novel imaging technique is designed to distinguish demyelinated nerve fibers that may still be viable from permanent nerve damage, potentially offering a more precise way to measure myelin loss and repair.
These findings are directly relevant to Lucid-MS, the company’s investigational compound designed to inhibit demyelination by targeting the enzyme PAD2, which is implicated in myelin degradation. A more precise imaging tool and a drug candidate designed to address the underlying cause of MS make for a compelling combination. Reaching the enrollment midpoint with promising early data suggests the science is holding up under real clinical conditions.
The study’s progress is a significant step forward in the development of tools that could transform how MS is monitored and treated. Current imaging methods, such as conventional MRI, often cannot differentiate between reversible demyelination and permanent axonal loss, limiting their utility in assessing disease progression and treatment efficacy. If validated, this new PET imaging technique could provide a non-invasive way to track myelin repair in real time, enabling clinicians to tailor therapies to individual patients and accelerating the evaluation of remyelinating drugs like Lucid-MS.
Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders, with drug candidates in different stages of development. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc. (“Lucid”), Quantum BioPharma is focused on the research and development of its lead compound, Lucid-MS. Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, in preclinical models.
The company’s pipeline also includes unbuzzd, a product designed to address alcohol misuse, which was spun out to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. (UWI). Quantum BioPharma retains ownership of 19.84% (as of March 31, 2026) of UWI and is entitled to royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. The company retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
The implications of this imaging study extend beyond Quantum BioPharma. If successful, the technique could become a standard tool in MS clinical trials, helping to identify effective therapies more quickly and bringing much-needed clarity to the assessment of neuroprotective and remyelinating treatments. For patients, this could mean more personalized care and a better understanding of their disease trajectory.
