South Dakota Manufacturer Launches National Scholarship to Cultivate Future Industrial Innovators

A new national scholarship initiative launched from South Dakota aims to address the growing need for skilled talent in the modern manufacturing sector. The Audrey Saylor Scholarship for Manufacturing is now accepting applications from undergraduate students across the United States who show promise in creative problem-solving and technological advancement within the industry.

Founded by Audrey Saylor, a South Dakota business leader with over two decades of experience in the manufacturing sector, the scholarship seeks to support students pursuing careers in fields such as industrial engineering, mechanical design, supply chain management, materials science, and business operations. The program provides financial assistance and national recognition to help cultivate the next generation of industrial leaders.

Saylor's career journey reflects the mission of the scholarship. After starting in education, she co-founded American Engineered Products (AEP) in 2004. As Vice President and co-owner, she guided the company to become a global pioneer in specialized metal manufacturing for the casino and video lottery markets. Her extensive background in business development and industrial design now fuels her commitment to supporting emerging scholars.

"Modern manufacturing relies on continuous adaptation, precision engineering, and bold ideas," Saylor stated. "This scholarship exists to support students who possess the vision and determination to solve real-world industrial challenges."

The scholarship is open to undergraduate students enrolled at any accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States, regardless of their state of residence. Applicants must be pursuing a degree or career path aligned with modern manufacturing, submit an original essay of 500 to 700 words addressing a specific prompt, and meet all application deadlines.

The essay prompt asks students to draw inspiration from Saylor's 20-year history of innovation in the casino and lottery industries and explain how they plan to bring fresh, creative problem-solving or technological innovation to their chosen field within modern manufacturing. Submissions will be evaluated based on original research, clarity of thought, and practical application to modern industrial challenges.

The selected recipient will receive a one-time grant of $1,000 to assist with higher education expenses. The application deadline is March 15, 2027, and the winner will be announced on April 15, 2027. Students from all fifty states are encouraged to apply online before the deadline.

This initiative arrives at a critical time as the manufacturing landscape evolves alongside global market demands. By investing in the education of future engineers, designers, and operations experts, the scholarship aims to ensure that American industry remains competitive and innovative.
