SS Innovations International Inc. (NASDAQ: SSII), a developer of innovative surgical robotic technologies, has appointed veteran medical technology finance executive Sarah M. Romano as chief financial officer, effective August 3, 2026. The appointment adds public-company financial and capital markets experience as the company continues its global expansion and advances regulatory initiatives.
Romano brings more than two decades of experience in public-company finance, capital markets, and medical technology, having raised more than $100 million during her career. She joins SS Innovations after serving as CFO at Vicarious Surgical, another developer of robotic surgical technologies, where she oversaw financial and operational initiatives designed to reduce cash burn and strengthen the company’s balance sheet.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for SS Innovations, which is pursuing broader commercialization of its SSi Mantra robotic surgical platform while continuing preparations for U.S. Food and Drug Administration review (https://nnw.fm/yY4UM). The SSi Mantra system is designed to enhance precision and control in minimally invasive surgeries, and FDA clearance would open the U.S. market, a significant growth opportunity.
In addition to regulatory milestones, SS Innovations has been expanding internationally. The company recently graduated the inaugural class of its SS International Centre for Robotics Surgery (SSICRS) cardiac robotic surgery training program. The program welcomed 33 healthcare professionals from seven countries, underscoring the company’s emphasis on surgeon education alongside technology deployment. By training surgeons from diverse regions, SS Innovations aims to build a global user base and facilitate adoption of its robotic system.
The dual focus on financial leadership and operational expansion signals SS Innovations’ commitment to scaling its business. With Romano’s expertise in capital markets and financial strategy, the company is better positioned to navigate the capital-intensive process of regulatory approval and commercialization. Her experience in reducing cash burn at Vicarious Surgical could be particularly valuable as SS Innovations seeks to manage expenses while investing in growth.
The global surgical robotics market is projected to grow significantly, driven by demand for minimally invasive procedures and technological advancements. SS Innovations’ ability to secure FDA clearance and expand its training programs will be critical to capturing market share. The appointment of a seasoned CFO like Romano provides financial stability and strategic guidance as the company enters this next phase.
