ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has published its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, detailing significant progress in responsible scaling amid surging demand from AI-driven workloads. The Singapore-headquartered data centre provider reported an 83.2% renewable energy usage and a 70.5% reduction in carbon intensity from its 2021 baseline, surpassing its 2028 target three years early. Additionally, water usage effectiveness (WUE) improved by 41.2% from the 2020 baseline, and the company continued embedding ESG considerations into design, build, finance, and operations.
Bruno Lopez, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of STT GDC, emphasized that responsible scaling is both a commercial and operational imperative. He stated, 'The next phase of digital growth will be defined by how the industry resolves the tension between rising demand — particularly from AI — and the finite nature of energy, water and land.' The report positions responsible growth as a core business discipline, linking sustainability performance to long-term asset resilience, customer trust, and operational excellence.
Key environmental achievements include a 70.5% reduction in carbon intensity from the 2021 baseline, surpassing the 2028 target three years ahead of schedule, alongside a 15.2% year-on-year reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions. The company also improved average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to 1.44, a 13.0% improvement from the 2020 baseline, and achieved a 41.2% improvement in WUE. Furthermore, 48% of its data centres have received green building certification, reflecting lifecycle sustainability integration.
On the social front, STT GDC maintained zero work-related fatalities and a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.1 across over 41 million hours worked. Employees averaged 18 training hours, and women representation reached 21.7%. The company expanded talent development initiatives, including the DC Power Up programme and partnerships with 10 Institutes of Higher Learning. In governance, 100% of employees completed anti-corruption training, and the company strengthened enterprise-wide risk management incorporating climate, cybersecurity, and operational risks. Supply chain governance was enhanced by embedding ESG criteria into procurement processes.
These efforts come as data centre operators face growing expectations to manage energy, water, climate, and cybersecurity risks with transparency.
