València Enhances European Cultural Standing with New Holy Grail Route Signage

The recent installation of new signage for the Holy Chalice Urban Route in València marks a significant advancement in the city's efforts to enhance its historical and cultural heritage. This initiative allows both residents and visitors to independently explore the main sites associated with the Holy Chalice, with the route culminating at València Cathedral, where this exceptional relic has been preserved since the fifteenth century.

To commemorate this milestone, the International Association of the Cultural Route The Way of the Holy Grail of Europe toured the newly signposted urban route, presenting the official Way of the Holy Grail Pilgrim Credential and underscoring the importance of linking the city's tourism experience with the great historic route connecting Jerusalem, Rome, Aragón, and València. The published photographs showcase several of the new interpretative panels installed by the City Council of València, featuring historical information, a complete route map, and QR codes providing multilingual content. This reinforces the city's position as a benchmark for accessible and innovative cultural tourism.

For the International Association, this new signage represents far more than a tourism initiative. It is a decisive step towards promoting the heritage of the Holy Chalice internationally within the framework of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme, positioning València as both the city where the documented history of the Holy Chalice reaches its culmination and the starting point of a new strategy for European cultural cooperation. In this context, the Association has formally conveyed its congratulations to the City Council of València for this initiative and has presented its institutional proposal entitled "València: Gateway to the European Cultural Route: The Way of the Holy Grail," while also inviting the city to participate in the 15th Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, to be held in Yerevan (Armenia) from 23 to 25 September 2026.

The initiative to promote the new signage and disseminate this achievement internationally is being carried out within the framework of cooperation agreements between the City Council of València, through its Department of Entrepreneurship, and the International Association of the Cultural Route The Way of the Holy Grail of Europe, as well as between the Provincial Council of València – Turisme València and the Cultural Association The Way of the Holy Grail. These agreements reflect the shared commitment of public institutions and organizations promoting the route to the enhancement of cultural heritage, entrepreneurship, sustainable tourism, and the European projection of València as the gateway to The Way of the Holy Grail, Route of Knowledge, Path of Peace.

The Way of the Holy Grail is a cultural cooperation project connecting different European territories through a historical narrative grounded in scientific research. Its historic route links Jerusalem, Rome, Huesca, San Juan de la Peña, Aragón, and València, while current cooperation projects extend its international dimension through partnerships with Council of Europe member states, including France, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and Monaco, as well as with the Holy See. The new urban signage now enables every visitor to understand that the Holy Chalice is not merely a relic preserved in València Cathedral, but rather the central element of a historic route of European significance that seeks recognition within the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme.

The International Association encourages both the people of València and national and international visitors to experience the new Holy Chalice Urban Route and to discover the wide range of experiences offered by The Way of the Holy Grail, Route of Knowledge, Path of Peace—a project that brings together heritage, scientific research, sustainable tourism, and international cooperation. Because València is not only the guardian of one of Europe's most remarkable relics: it is also the gateway to a cultural route designed to connect territories, knowledge, and people through the shared history of the Holy Grail.
