Volunteer Minister Opening Event in Oklahoma City Highlights Disaster Preparedness and Community Service

The WUS Volunteer Minister Cavalcade successfully hosted its Volunteer Minister Opening Event on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Plaza Calle Dos Cinco in Oklahoma City. The event brought together community members for a day centered on disaster preparedness, humanitarian service, and cultural celebration.

Emceed by Volunteer Minister Adan Yanes, the event featured a seminar titled "Solutions for a Dangerous Environment," which provided attendees with practical information and resources to better prepare for and respond to disasters and challenging situations. The seminar aimed to equip individuals and communities with knowledge to enhance their readiness.

A highlight of the event was a performance by Ballet Folklórico Xochipilli of Oklahoma City, which showcased Mexico's rich cultural heritage through vibrant rhythms, traditional costumes, and dynamic choreography. The performance added a festive and meaningful dimension to the day's activities, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Community participation was emphasized during an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, where attendees were invited to join the celebration. Many members of the public took part, reinforcing the event's community-focused spirit. Following the ceremony, the seminar attracted several attendees interested in learning more about disaster preparedness and the Volunteer Ministers' humanitarian efforts.

Reflecting on the event, seminar host Adan Yanes shared a particularly moving moment: "One of the visitors shed tears knowing that the Volunteer Ministers help a lot to those affected by disasters. She didn't know there was an organization that helped so much." This response underscored the impact of the Volunteer Ministers' work and the importance of raising awareness about available assistance for those affected by disasters and emergencies.

The Volunteer Minister Opening Event served as both an educational and community-building occasion, strengthening public awareness of disaster preparedness while highlighting the ongoing commitment of Volunteer Ministers to helping others in times of need. The Volunteer Ministers program, established more than three decades ago by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, is rooted in the belief that individuals can make a meaningful difference in their communities. The group has become known for its humanitarian efforts, assisting in disaster zones and collaborating with public service organizations worldwide. Their work is featured in the new feature-length film Operation: Do Something About It on the Scientology Network.
