Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Secures First Milestone Payment from Bayer for Iodine Feasibility Study

Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (TSX.V: VM) (OTC Pink: VYYRF) announced on September 9, 2026, that it has achieved the first milestone under its Collaboration and Funding Agreement with Bayer AG, securing a USD $1 million payment. The milestone was reached after Bayer approved Voyageur's complete feasibility work plan and timetable, following successful laboratory production of 99.8% purity iodine using Voyageur's proprietary Mueller extraction process from Anadarko Basin produced water.

This payment brings the total received by Voyageur to USD $1.35 million of the USD $2.35 million committed by Bayer. The funds will support the completion of a FEL-3 feasibility study by Fluor Corporation, with the remaining USD $1 million milestone payment scheduled upon study completion. The transportable pilot plant is nearing completion and is slated for field operation this fall.

The significance of this development lies in its potential to establish a reliable North American source of high-purity iodine for use in contrast media drugs, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing supply-chain security. According to Brent Willis, President and CEO of Voyageur, "This capital is expected to further accelerate our iodine supply strategy and move us closer to validating a reliable North American source of high-purity iodine for use in contrast media drugs."

Subject to successful feasibility study outcomes, Bayer and Voyageur may enter a second phase to negotiate a long-term offtake supply agreement. The project envisions a staged production rollout beginning with 200 tonnes per year, potentially expanding to 1,000 tonnes per year. A central manufacturing facility would then process the iodine concentrate into USP pharmaceutical-grade iodine for contrast drug production.

Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) is providing engineering, thermodynamic modeling, and project planning support, with work progressing on schedule. Subsequent engineering phases will advance through FEL-2 and FEL-3 to define a demonstration-scale configuration. The FEL-2 phase is expected to take approximately four to five months, followed by FEL-3 of seven to nine months, with increasing cost-estimate accuracy.

Voyageur's vertically integrated strategy aims to improve supply-chain security and reduce operating costs for medical imaging contrast agents, a market estimated at approximately USD $7.06 billion. The company is building multiple revenue streams, including near-term barium contrast sales and iodine sales under the Bayer collaboration, with longer-term opportunities in contrast drug manufacturing.

"The Bayer collaboration, combined with technical support from Fluor, continues to strengthen the foundation for scalable domestic iodine production," added Mr. Willis. Voyageur owns a 100% interest in the Frances Creek barium sulfate project and has developed five barium contrast products with Health Canada licenses. The company's vision is to become the first vertically integrated company in the radiology contrast media drug market, embodying the motto "From Earth to Bottle."
